Insight
State industry employment momentum
For each state, how the industries that employ each occupation moved over the year to this QCEW quarter, summarised across all 30,842 verified occupation-state records on this site. This is industry context weighted by occupation, not a state score and not a ranking.
What this measures, and what it does not
BLS QCEW reports employment, wages and business locations by industry, not by occupation. JobMarketHealth weights those published industry figures by an occupation’s published industry mix to produce occupation-weighted industry context. These figures are not direct occupation employment, not a count of current job openings, and not part of the national 0 to 100 Job Market Health score. There is no state-level score on this site, and nothing on this page ranks states against one another.
- Eligible record
- One occupation and state pair in the frozen QCEW state context release, 2026 Q1, which contains verified records only (green).
- Median industry employment, year over year
- The middle published occupation-weighted industry employment change among a state’s eligible records, or the mean of the two middle values. Records without a published value are excluded rather than counted as zero.
- Above and below the U.S. benchmark
- Counted per record as the state value minus the same measure computed on the national benchmark, in percentage points, from the published operands. Only records publishing both sides are comparable, and the comparable count is shown alongside.
- Median coverage
- The middle published coverage share among a state’s eligible records. Coverage is the share of the occupation’s industry mix for which the state published usable industry data. Every record in this release met the 85% floor.

Largest differences from the U.S. benchmark
Individual records with the largest positive and negative differences in this release, each linking to its canonical state record and evidence record. A larger positive difference means the industries employing that occupation grew faster in that state than nationally over the same period.
Provenance
Every figure is read from the frozen QCEW state context release, 2026 Q1 and nothing here is recomputed from live data. Underlying industry employment, wage and business-location statistics are published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics in QCEW. See the methodology, about the data and how to cite this data. To place two or three states side by side for one occupation, use compare states.
